Ted Heath's old home is worth a visit but check it will be open if you're planning a trip - it's now in charitable hands and opens infrequently.
Hard to beat its lovely location within the cathedral close, Arundells is a real treasure not to be missed. The guides are so friendly and informative. Each room is filled to bursting with glorious artefacts, photos and pictures. A truly wonderful experience to wonder (without any crowds) around a loved for home of an ex British prime minister.
Although you can visit Arundells without a guided tour, our guide was so knowledgeable and full of interesting facts I strongly recommend that you do go on one of the guided tours.After entering the front drive, there is a an exhibition room to the right and this is full of memorabilia regarding Ted Heath and his music and shouldn't be missed.On entering the house you are immediately presented with how good a sailor Heath was and how his famous yacht Morning Cloud had number incarnations.The next room is the sitting room/music room is full of photos from Ted Heath's life as a politician with photographs of most of the major world leaders from the 60s onwards. The dining room with its place names of guests who had dinner there at some point in time is very interesting and its very interesting that Ted Heath and Harold Wilson were actually reasonably friendly.Upstairs, the office is a lovely room with great views out over the garden down to the river Avon and the stairs/landing with its Chinese wall paper is a reminder of his interest in China - he actually visited 26 times over the years.After visiting the house, a stroll around the 2 acre garden is lovely with excellent views of Salisbury Cathedral and don't miss the bow of Morning Cloud (II?) to commemorate the loss of 2 crew members.There is an incredible amount of history in the house and its amazing to think that Ted Heath was so accomplished in sailing, music and politics. A fascinating visit and tour made even more so by an extremely knowledgeable guide.

Well worth a visit if you have any interest in politics. The advisors in each of the rooms are very knowledgeable - make sure you engage with them as they will embellish your understanding of Edward Heath and the house.
